بِسْمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحْمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِيمِ

In the Name of Allāh, the All-beneficent, the All-merciful.

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ وَٱلطَّارِقِ﴿١﴾

By the heaven, and by the nightly visitor(1)

وَمَآ أَدْرَىٰكَ مَا ٱلطَّارِقُ﴿٢﴾

(and what will show you what is the nightly visitor?(2)

ٱلنَّجْمُ ٱلثَّاقِبُ﴿٣﴾

It is the brilliant star):(3)

إِن كُلُّ نَفْسٍ لَّمَّا عَلَيْهَا حَافِظٌ﴿٤﴾

there is a guard over every soul.(4)

فَلْيَنظُرِ ٱلْإِنسَـٰنُ مِمَّ خُلِقَ﴿٥﴾

So let man consider from what he was created.(5)

خُلِقَ مِن مَّآءٍ دَافِقٍ﴿٦﴾

He was created from an effusing fluid(6)

يَخْرُجُ مِنۢ بَيْنِ ٱلصُّلْبِ وَٱلتَّرَآئِبِ﴿٧﴾

which issues from between the loins and the breast-bones.(7)

إِنَّهُۥ عَلَىٰ رَجْعِهِۦ لَقَادِرٌ﴿٨﴾

Indeed He is able to bring him back [after death],(8)

يَوْمَ تُبْلَى ٱلسَّرَآئِرُ﴿٩﴾

on the day when the secrets are examined(9)

فَمَا لَهُۥ مِن قُوَّةٍ وَلَا نَاصِرٍ﴿١٠﴾

and he shall have neither power nor helper.(10)

وَٱلسَّمَآءِ ذَاتِ ٱلرَّجْعِ﴿١١﴾

By the resurgent heaven,(11)

وَٱلْأَرْضِ ذَاتِ ٱلصَّدْعِ﴿١٢﴾

and by the furrowed earth:(12)

إِنَّهُۥ لَقَوْلٌ فَصْلٌ﴿١٣﴾

it is indeed a conclusive discourse,(13)

وَمَا هُوَ بِٱلْهَزْلِ﴿١٤﴾

and not a jest.(14)

إِنَّهُمْ يَكِيدُونَ كَيْدًا﴿١٥﴾

Indeed they are devising a stratagem,(15)

وَأَكِيدُ كَيْدًا﴿١٦﴾

and I [too] am devising a plan.(16)

فَمَهِّلِ ٱلْكَـٰفِرِينَ أَمْهِلْهُمْ رُوَيْدًۢا﴿١٧﴾

So respite the faithless; give them a gentle respite.(17)
